In recent years there has been an accelerated visibility of mafias, especially if of Italian origin, in Argentine public scene. Due to its centrality in both the creation and the dissemination of social images, considering the position assumed by Argentine cinema regarding the mafia phenomenon represents a timely effort. The very concept of mafia that the films convey, the genres the films belong to, the type of response that they demand from the audience are some points of access to such an imaginarium. This work is based on the analysis of both the production and the recognition conditions, reconstructed from the reviews published in La Nación, Clarín and Página 12, of a selection of five Argentine films cataloged on the publicly funded Cine.ar play platform. The results suggest that recent Argentine cinema does not escape the inflationary discursive tendency.
