Through the concept of “constellation” as a methodological category for comparative studies in cinema, as proposed by Mariana Souto (2020), this article aims to locate queer speculative fiction cinema within a general panorama of contemporary Brazilian cinema and explore the activist potential of these films. Starting from the analysis of the current context of Brazilian cinema, we will seek to understand how queer constellations fail to reproduce certain trends in political cinema and create new alternatives, aesthetics and approaches to social themes. For the purposes of this article, we established as a frame of work of what we call here the “most recent production” of contemporary Brazilian cinema, the films produced between the years 2013 and 2020.
